Update: The Four Fives Photo Essay

A photo essay update: The four fives have been up to a lot in the past few months! Here are some photos that show just a few of the many things we have been up to.

What is peace? Notes from our class discussion defining the idea of "peace".

Adventure Hiking: The Four Fives joined the middle school for a field study to the Stonetta Lands, where we practiced art and science. The four fives will be working on an informational text about birds at the BLM lands later this year.

The Four Fives at PE: Playing capture the flag together at the field. The Four Fives are getting ready for our trip to the Balclutha (in May) through Physical Education classes in game play, soccer, basketball practice, running, gymnastics, and break dancing.

Researching and Technology: The Four Fives are working to develop computer literacy while becoming researchers for topics that interest them and impact the world.

The Four Fives took a time trip into the 1960's for a day to study Martin Luther King's I have a Dream Speech. Special guest speaker Tresla shared with the class her experience living in Washington D.C. and seeing the speech herself as a child.

Gardening and cooking: The Four Fives planted potatoes in the fall. Then, we picked the potatoes and made them into a delicious soup together. This soup was shared with others at school and in the community. The Four Fives are now watching red worms compost the left overs so that we can plant something new from them this spring.

The Four Fives were thankful to Ulali and Aiyana who shared some Pomo dances with the whole school for Native American peoples day.

Music: The Four Fives are exploring concepts of math through learning music together. We also wrote an original song called "Hugs not Drugs", which we performed at the all school play in December. The Four Fives were also the musicians and sound effects techs for the all school play as well as the actors, crew, set and costume designers and promoters.

The Four Fives are now working towards writing and recording an album together, which we will use as a fundraiser for our future field trips and events.

Magic Science: The Four Fives read about and then perform magic tricks that are based on laws of chemistry and physics in magic science class.

The Four Fives became Ocean Helpers by participating in National Beach clean up day as part of our week of peace. We walked to the cove and collected over 10 bags of trash!

The Four Fives enjoyed themselves at the all school holiday party after studying about the celebrations of Kwanza and Hanukkah and completing a unit on
gift making and the importance of giving.
